it was understood that the prophets spoke TO God and spoke FOR God. But that doesn't mean that the prophets were the only way God spoke or the only way He speaks to us now. The reality is that, if we're looking we can see God using STORY as a way to communicate who He is and what He's up to in the world. Since the beginning of time, He has been using prophets and non-prophets alike to draw people into relationships.
